Shah’s political journey began at a young age. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organization, at the age of 16. He later became an active member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS.
