Sukhbir Singh Badal is a prominent Indian politician and businessman, born on July 9, 1962, in Faridkot, Punjab. He is the son of Parkash Singh Badal, a former Chief Minister of Punjab. Sukhbir studied at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, and later pursued an M.A. in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and an MBA from California State University, Los Angeles.
He began his political career in 1996 as a Member of Parliament from Faridkot and served as Union Minister of State for Industry from 1998 to 1999. In 2008, he became the President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab from 2009 to 2017. He currently represents the Firozpur constituency in the Lok Sabha. Sukhbir is married to Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is also a politician. They have three children.
Aside from his political endeavors, Sukhbir Singh Badal is involved in various business ventures, including transport and real estate. His career has not been without controversy, including a 2015 incident involving a bus owned by his company and past corruption allegations from which he was acquitted in 2010. In December 2024, the Akal Takht found him guilty of religious misconduct.
